New Progress in Certificate English Series is written in accordance with the new HKCE English Language examination syllabus, which will be effective in 2007. The series has a Mock Practice and a Practical Guide for all three papers of the examination. It provides students with plenty of practices and essential skills they need to succeed in the HKCEE.


The Practical Guide has the following special features:
  • Step-by-step approach
    Exam skills are first introduced in 'Skill Express', then illustrated by 'Demonstration', and finally consolidated by 'Work It Out'.
  • Updated and authentic materials
    Latest and authentic materials help students learn English in their daily life.
  • Interactive activities
    At the end of each chapter, students can conduct interactive activities in 'Your Turn' by using the flap cards on the cover.
  • Plenty of practice papers
    Exam practice papers, including 'Test Your Understanding' at the end of each chapter, as well as 3 Revision Tests and 3 Mock Exam Papers familiarize students with the new exam format and requirements.
  • Clear concept maps
    'Summing Up' presents important points learnt in a chapter clearly in a concept map.
  • Detailed assessment tables
    'Self Evaluation' contains detailed assessment tables to help students check their progress in learning. Teachers are also well-informed of the students' progress.

Additional supporting aids:

  • Three revision tests and three mock exam papers for students' practice.


The Mock Practice has the following special features:

  • Plenty of Mock Practices
    12 mock practices with varying levels of difficulty help cater for students' difference in learning competence and familiarise them with the new exam format and requirements.
  • Exam Strategies
    Essential skills and tactics are provided for students to tackle the new exam question types.
  • Progress Report
    Students are able to conduct self-evaluation. Teachers are also well-informed of the students' progress.
  • Revision Cards
    Useful vocabulary and expressions from the mock practices are printed on handy cards for students' quick revision.
  • Comparison between the New and Old Exam Syllabuses
    Tables are given to clearly show the differences between the new and old exams, including those in exam components, weighting and duration.
  • Peer Evaluation Form (for Paper 3 only)
    Students can evaluate each other's strengths and weaknesses by filling in the form.
  • Role Cards (for Paper 3 only)
    They provide students with more ideas for the group discussion.
